Last weekend of 2009 in Nahma

16 Dec

This past weekend we headed to Nahma so everyone could see Miles. This will be the last time there until next spring as Leah’s parents winterized the house. (Next summer, Miles will definitely be having a blast on the beach.) We will be heading down there for News Year’s but we’ll be staying at her grandma’s house.

We’ll also be heading down to Greg’s parents’ house next week for Christmas and everyone on his side of the family will finally get to see Miles. Hopefully Santa will come find him for his first Christmas! :)

Winter has finally hit and left a pretty good mark. We’ve received over 2 feet of snow in the last week or so. It’s been pretty cold, too, which has gotten Greg excited for ice fishing.

As for Miles, he seems to be getting bigger every day, growing out of outfits on what seems like a daily basis. Lately, he’s been making a lot of new noises and likes to stick out his tongue like a little frog. He’s also reaching for objects and seems more focused on his surroundings.

We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Pics from Thanksgiving

3 Dec

Here’s some images from our Thanksgiving weekend in Nahma. Miles got to meet quite a few cousins and loved all the attention. We ate a lot of food, watched the Lions lose to the Packers, played cards and jammed on Guitar Hero. All in all, a great weekend!

Miles’ milestones – 2 months

24 Nov

Yesterday was Miles’ 2 month appointment with his pediatrician. He got his first round of shots and hated them, poor little guy. He screamed for hours last night, and when he finally fell asleep on my lap, he whimpered in his sleep with a sad look on his little face. He seems to be doing better this morning, thank God. Here were his stats:

- Weight 12 lb., 8.5 oz. (50-75th percentile)
- Length 22.25″ (10-25th percentile)
- Head 16.25″ (75th percentile)

So now he’s a short, squat baby with a big head. :) Though to be fair, the nurse didn’t measure his length right. He was lying on a curved table and she measured in a straight line from his head to his foot, instead of following the curve. So I imagine it could add up to half an inch. His doctor said that the weight gain is probably a build up for a quick growth spurt and that he’ll probably get longer in the next month. We’ll see. We don’t exactly have a lot of height in our family, so he’s probably not going to be a tall guy.

In the last month, Miles has certainly developed a lot. He’s “talking” a lot more, saying ah-goo, goo-ah, gah, and just babbling. He loves to have conversations with you which can go on for minutes. If I leave the room he’ll shout for me to come back so he can talk to me. The first time he did that it was so loud I thought one of the cats had jumped on him or something, so I came rushing back in to find him just sitting there, watching for me.

He loves to lie on the floor and kick his legs and flail his arms. That way he can see everything and everyone in the room and chatter at them while he works out. He does this for hours every day, propped up with a pillow and on a comfy blanket. (I tried it once for a minute and let me tell you, it’s quite the ab workout. He must have abs of steel under that baby pudge.)

He can hold his head up almost completely now. Last weekend at church, he looked over my shoulder and had a starting contest with Justin nearly the entire time. (Miles won.) I’ve put him in his bumbo a few times, but he doesn’t seem to really like it. I think that’s because he can’t kick his legs while he’s in it. Once he’s more into toys, he’ll probably like it.

He’s not the most smiley of babies, though he’ll smile in the mornings (and the very, very early mornings). He likes to look at ceiling fans and the fish that spin over his head in his swing. He likes to look out windows at the trees and the sky. He likes his bath, kicking and splashing in the water. And he likes to eat.

At about week 7, he finally figured out breastfeeding. He’d had problems from the beginning, not able to latch on. I even visited a lactation consultant who said I was doing everything right, it was just Miles who was the problem. I kept pumping and using a nipple shield and then, just when I was about to give up, he finally figured it out. Let me tell you, 7 weeks doesn’t sound long, but when you’re experiencing it and spending so much time feeding (an hour per feeding some times), it seems like forever. I’m so glad that I persevered, though, because it’s just so much easier (feeding takes 10 minutes now) and a lot less dishes, especially since we don’t have a dishwasher.

He’s also started sleeping longer at night, up to 7 hours the first time he’s put down for the night. He’s also much better about getting his diaper changed. He used to hate it, but now it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He also likes being naked or just in his diaper. (He gets really excited when he’s getting undressed in the bathroom because he knows he’s getting a bath.)

It’s so much fun to see how he learns something new every day. I’m really going to miss him when I go back to work next month. It’s going to be hard to be away from him when up to now, the longest we’ve been apart is 4 hours and he’s been with Greg. And our daycare situation is up in the air still. I thought it was all figured out months ago, but now the woman who was supposed to watch him doesn’t seem to want to do it anymore. I have no idea how this is going to work out, and I really hope it will get figured out soon!

Here are his two month pictures, including one with Percy the Penguin, though I just looked back at his one month and we never did add the one we took with Percy to that post. We’ll have to go back and do that.

Miles in the tub

16 Nov

This past weekend we headed down to Nahma and enjoyed spending time with Leah’s family. The weather was decent and Miles had fun. He’s been starting to smile a bit more and actually attempted to roll onto his side. He’s also gaining strength, nearly holding his head up on his own and should be there shortly. Last night Leah gave him a bath, so we took a few pics.

Miles at the beach

12 Nov

This past weekend we headed down to Nahma to celebrate Leah’s mom’s 50th birthday. The weather was super warm for early November and everyone enjoyed seeing Miles, including Justin and Laura for the first time. As you can see by the photos below, Miles got to experience the beach. It will be fun next summer when he’s big enough to play in the sand. While Dayna babysat for a bit, we headed down to the Nahma Inn for the birthday party. It was nice to see everyone.

Not much else has been happening. I’ve been busy the last couple nights with raking the yard. After 5 truckloads of leaves, we’re getting there. Anyone need some leaves?
