Miles’ milestones – 1 month
26 Oct
Today we went to the pediatrician for Miles’ one month appointment. Here are his stats:
- Weight 9 lb., 4 oz. (25th percentile)
- Length 21″ (25th percentile)
- Head 15.1″ (50th percentile)
So basically our little guy has a big head. The nurse said it’s just because he’s so smart. I agreed, but naturally I would, since I’m his mother.
Life with Miles is definitely a big change for us. One of the biggest changes has been in the amount of laundry. Pre-Miles I used to do two or three loads a week. Now I’m doing a load a day, in part to keep clean burp cloths and changing pad covers on hand. He has reflux, so he spits up quite a bit, but the doctor said since it doesn’t seem to be bothering him, we just have to wait for him to grow out of it. He also seems to wait until we’ve got his diaper off to pee. I’ve been peed on more times than I can count. And I swear he waits until I’ve put the clean cover on the changing pad to go all over it. Not to mention that he always seems to do it in the middle of the night, making what should be a quick and easy diaper change into a whole outfit change, which he hates.
Any day now I think he’ll start smiling. He’s been smiling and laughing more in his sleep and today he did this wide open-mouth grimace that looked like it could possibly be a smile. He has the cutest dimples in his cheeks, so I can’t wait until he can smile so we can see them.
He’s also been more alert lately and “talks” to you, which is so cute. He’s also not sleeping as much during the day and I’d gotten used to us taking an afternoon nap together, which I really miss. He’s still really good at night, waking up 2 or 3 times to eat and going right back to sleep. Last night for some reason he woke up an hour after eating, though it turned out that he just wanted his pacifier and to be cuddled, which I didn’t mind.
He’s started noticing more of what’s around him, including the fish that spin over his head on his swing, the cats walking past him when he’s lying on the floor, and the dangling animals on his bouncy seat. He also seems to like being read to, as you can see in the pictures in the last post. I love to read, so I hope he will, too.
Below are some pictures Greg took of him, though we still need to take a photo of him with his stuffed penguin. I meant to take one of him with it when he first came home so that in his monthly pictures with it, you’ll be able to see how much he’s grown, but I never got around to it. Oops!
