A few maternity pics

30 Aug

Last weekend we decided to try taking some of our own maternity pics in the back yard and we’re both pleased with how they turned out. The weeks are counting down and we’re both pretty much set for the arrival of the little one. Last week we finished our last birthing class and the week prior I took a Dads 101 class while Leah took the breastfeeding class. The baby’s room is almost complete with the exception of a dresser and some stuff on the walls. The kittens are growing fast and keeping us busy. They like to hang out in the baby’s room every so often. Makes you wonder if they sense someone else will be joining the household soon. Other than that, not much has been happening. Yesterday was supposed to be Leah’s company picnic but they canceled it due to the hurricane-like weather we had. Instead, we decided to go see the newest Harry Potter movie. Probably the last movie we’ll see at the theatre for awhile.
This weekend we’ll be heading down to Nahma for Labor Day and we’re praying the weather will be nice. This could be the first summer we didn’t swim! It should be a good time with everyone around and also Leah’s final baby shower.

Crazy busy hot weekend

19 Aug

cornLast weekend was hot here. Like it’s-90°-and-I’m-sweating-and-can’t-get-cool hot. Greg’s parents were up visiting us and working really hard in the heat. His mom washed every single window, inside and out. I can’t believe how sparkling they are now. When you look outside, you actually see what you’re looking at instead of being distracted by a dirty window. And Greg and his dad re-roofed the walkout for the basement. Roofing in 90° just seems crazy, but it always seems to happen that way, doesn’t it? When you’ve got something to do outside it’s either raining or scorching. But it looks great. Me, I helped out as best I could and tried not to feel guilty that I couldn’t do more.

Tonight was our second childbirth prep class. Tonight’s class was the birthing center tour and the massage portion, which I liked. We’ll see if Greg can remember any of it (and if I can stand to have him touch me) when I’m in labor. It’s hard to believe we’ll be there for real before too much longer. Tomorrow I’m going to a breastfeeding class while Greg goes to Dads 101. Should be interesting.

roofingI’ve actually started getting the nursery put together. We still don’t have a dresser yet so I can’t wash any of the baby’s clothes and it’s killing me. I see all these tiny little outfits still in their packages and I want to wash them, fold them and put them away. I did put together the bouncy seat and highchair, even though we won’t be using the highchair for months and months. I’ve left the Pack-n-Play in the box still, but only because I think the kitties would try to climb up the mesh sides and Greg would have a fit. I’ve also got the bassinet put together, but again not washed. I did wash the crib sheet and put it on the mattress, though we’ve discovered that we need to order 3 parts for the crib before we can get it put together. Time seems to be flying by and I’m not liking it! I don’t want these last 6 weeks to go too fast. I still feel like there’s so much left to do.

I’ve been going for weekly non-stress tests, which I’ll continue until the baby’s born. They’ve been fine, and it’s fun to sit and listen to the baby’s heartbeat for half an hour, once a week. Greg’s coming to the one tomorrow so he can see what it’s all about.

henry-inspectingThis weekend the kitties go for their shots and we’re going to go furniture shopping. Yay! We’re also going to get curtains. Currently, none of our windows have curtains. None. Which means that whenever you get changed at night you have to shut off the bedroom lights so that the neighbors can’t see you. Super annoying. I’d been waiting until we finished painting our window trim, but I’m giving up on that. We’ll just have to take them down when we finally get around to finishing painting.

32 weeks

4 Aug

Well, we’ve made it to 32 weeks. Only 8 weeks left! It sounds really scary to say it that way because it doesn’t feel like we’re nearly ready yet. Greg’s been working on the baby’s room and only has the trim left to do, which should be done this week. I’ll post some pictures once we get it all set up. I’m still on the hunt for a dresser and I can’t wait to get one so I can get the baby’s tiny little clothes washed and put away. It’s amazing how tiny that stuff is!

Last weekend we went out to Minneapolis to visit my friend Kami, her husband Ryan, and their new baby, Jessa. She is such a cutie pie, that little Jessa, and so good! Greg got to go to Cabela’s while we were there, but ended up only buying one sticker for $1.49. Whoa, big spender! Kami lent me her maternity clothes to wear, which I am super grateful for, because I’m getting tired of my same 8 shirts but didn’t want to go out and buy more when I’ll only be wearing them for another couple of months. She also gave us some neutral newborn clothes to borrow that Jessa has grown out of. Our baby has quite the little wardrobe already!

Thursday morning I start my weekly nonstress tests to check on the baby. This is due to both my history and the blood thinners I’m on, to make sure that the baby is doing well. The problem is that I scheduled these all at 8:00 in the morning so that Greg could go if he wanted, but it happens to be the baby’s usual nap time. I’ll have to wake up really early and eat breakfast to make sure that he or she is active during the test so that it won’t take too long. I also have another of my monthly ultrasounds on Friday, and we’re both excited to see how our baby’s grown in the last month.

We’re also trying to think of names. I kept coming up with names and Greg kept shooting them down. When I’d tell him to come up with some he said he couldn’t, so yesterday I got a couple of baby name books from the library and Greg started looking through them last night. Hopefully we’ll come up with something before the baby’s born, though you do have a year to name the baby after it’s born. Not that I think we’ll wait that long (I hope)!

Our kittens are growing and getting big! Greg still gets a bit crabby at them at times, but he definitely has a soft spot for little Josie. She always comes over to his side of the bed and just looks up at him with her big, sad-looking eyes and he lifts her up. On Sunday after we’d been gone all weekend, I think they were a bit overexcited to have us back and didn’t want to sleep. Neither of us slept very well due to their rambunctiousness and wrestling on the bed. Greg put them out in the hall two different times, but our bedroom door doesn’t latch so they would just push it open and come inside again. Last night they were better and slept through the night. I told him that this is good practice for when the baby comes, but at 3:00 in the morning he doesn’t want to hear it.

Below is my 32 week picture. I’m definitely getting bigger!
