Our first Skandia Days

22 Jul

branchestruckThis past Saturday was our first ever Skandia Days. This one-day celebration includes a polka dance (we didn’t attend), a 1/2-mile long parade and a gathering at the community center. It felt like a smaller version of the annual Nahma Labor Day Celebration. The weather was only in the 60s so it felt like fall rather than mid-July! Ken and Erin came over with kids for the parade and then we walked down to the cookout. We competed in the water balloon toss and did pretty well, probably around 5th or 6th place.

On Sunday, Leah’s parents and grandma came up for a visit. Greg and Leah’s dad trimmed the trees in the backyard. They were in need of some major trimming and it should help the grass grow in the backyard, too. They used Greg’s truck to haul the branches to the woods and as you can see it was quite the sight.

Below is a picture of Leah at 30 weeks. The baby has been really active and tends to push his/her bony elbows or knees into Leah’s ribs. Greg primed the baby’s room and now it can finally get painted. Tomorrow is also another one of Leah’s baby showers, hosted by her work employees.

Meet Henry and Josie

20 Jul

Here’s the latest addition to the family as of last Friday night. Meet Henry and Josie. They are two cute kittens full of energy, which keeps us busy. Each of them has their own personality which is pretty funny. Josie was the runt of litter but she is the braver one. She looks about 2-3 weeks smaller than Henry but has a huge appetite. She also likes to sit in your lap. As for Henry, he is the active one who goes a bit crazy and is in to everything. He also the first to hide when there’s a loud noise or when he gets scared.

Downstate and back

16 Jul

Our big trip to my parents’ house went well and was a good time. Here’s a quick review of our mini vacation:

We left late Thursday and arrived down there just after midnight. On Friday, we didn’t do a whole lot and just hung out at the house. Leah organized some of our old family photos and we had some good laughs looking at them. My brother Steve and I went fishing on a little stream and he caught a few decent size trout while I caught a couple chubs. Then on Saturday it was the big baby shower for Leah and the guys went golfing. The Kretovic Open golf tournament was also part of the golfing. Steve and I ended in a tie with 42s so the K-vic Open was a split decision. On Sunday, we visited my 94-year-old grandma and saw some of my other relatives who we hadn’t seen in a while. By Monday we were on the road and headed back to the U.P. with a car load of baby stuff.

This weekend we’re sticking around home and hoping to get some things done. The baby’s room is ready for primer. This Saturday is Skandia Days which includes a parade in front of our house and a festive time down at the community center. We’ll let you know how it goes.

Pictures from the July 4th in Nahma are now posted.

A good Fourth

9 Jul

It was a good July 4th break for us as we headed to Nahma for the long weekend. The weather was really nice but the water was really cold, though a few of us did a quick run in, dive and run out. We ate lots of good food and enjoyed seeing the family. On Saturday, we got to see Chloe and Lily. They are both getting so big! The fireworks were also great and we had a good little crowd down at the beach to watch them. Leah and I played our typical roles of pyrotechnicians. Don’t worry, I do the lighting while Leah pics out the next firework. The baby was pretty active with all the loud bangs. We’ll post some pics soon.

The baby is continuing to grow as well as Leah :) . Yesterday, she had another of her monthly ultrasounds and everything went well. This weekend we’ll be heading downstate to my parents house. Leah will be having her first of three baby showers while we’re there. It should be a good time!
