Weekend at home

29 Jun

bikefest2This weekend was a quiet one for us as we stayed home. On Friday night we went to the Superior Bikefest (cycling & mountain bike racing) in downtown Marquette. They had a criterium race which was a .75 mile loop around downtown. It was pretty neat to watch 40+ racers cycling up and down the streets. We didn’t see any crashes where we sat but there were some racers with road rash (ouch!). On Saturday we bought some paint for the baby’s room as well as a take-home outfit and a blanket for the baby. Then that night we went out to Ken and Erin’s house to visit them. Their boys were pretty entertaining.

The weather has turned crummy for the last couple days. Today it pretty much rained all day and the temperature was only around 55 degrees all day. We actually turned the heat on today when we got home. There’s definitely something wrong when we’re turning the furnace on at the end of June. The forecast looks better for the upcoming July 4th weekend.

The baby has been pretty active in Leah’s belly and tomorrow starts our 27th week. It will be 13 weeks (give or take) until the little one is here.

Have a good Fourth!

Feelin’ hot, hot, hot

23 Jun

The crazy warm weather has been the story around here. It feels like someone turned the furnace on to full blast and forgot about it with 80+ degree temperatures. The last couple days have been really warm at the new house.  We’re about 13 miles from Lake Superior so the lake breeze doesn’t quite reach this far south. Today there was about a 20° difference from the lake shore and out at the new house in the hills. The last couple of days we’ve been motivated to put some more stuff away so the basement is looking a bit better. Greg also hooked up the entertainment center and Wii. Now our neighbors can watch us play Guitar Hero and think we’re even more weird than they probably already do.

This past weekend we went to Nahma and relaxed for the weekend. On Saturday Greg and Leah’s dad went fishing but didn’t have a whole lot of luck with only 1 catch. Leah got try out her new maternity bathing suit (no swimming, though) and she was happy with it. The sun was really hot so she didn’t stay on the beach too long.

On Thursday is Leah’s big 29th birthday! We’re planning to go out for dinner on Friday night to celebrate. Other than that, not a whole lot happening.

Below is Leah’s picture from today at 26 weeks. Less than 100 days till the little one arrives!!!

We have finally added some pictures of the new house! Most of them are before pictures and we’ll add more in the future as we put stuff away. Enjoy! View the house photos.

Our baby, the movie star

12 Jun

We had our ultrasound today to check to see how the baby’s doing, and he/she is doing great! The tech even gave us a video of the baby moving around, which was so awesome. Here, see for yourself (though for some reason it doesn’t play the whole movie the first time around, so you might need to watch it twice to see all 9 seconds):

I like how the baby opens his/her mouth and you can see he/she is holding on to the umbilical cord. The baby was sure active during the exam, either from the tons of cold water I had to drink ahead of time or from a sugar rush from the hot fudge sundae I ate this afternoon. :)

We’ll post some screenshots from the other videos, too (there were three different videos on the disk they gave us). One of videos shows the baby opening and closing his/her hand and you can see all the tiny fingers. We didn’t get to see the baby’s legs or feet because we didn’t want to find out the baby’s sex and he/she had his/her legs curled up so that the feet were right in front of the baby’s boy/girl parts.

So we go back in a month for another ultrasound. It will be neat to see how much the baby’s grown by then!

Here are the screenshots I mentioned:

The last one is my favorite, I love the little tiny chin and the pouty lip.

Back online (finally!)

9 Jun

We had such a difficult time getting our TV and Internet hooked up here at the new house. It’s a long, involved, complicated headache of a story, but needless to say, we’re finally back online after two and a half weeks.

We’re now fully moved into the new house, but only the kitchen and bathroom are completely unpacked. The rest of the house is pretty bare, with the exception of the basement, which is crowded with all of our moving boxes. But we’re not in any big hurry to get things unpacked and in place. Greg is planning to paint the trim in the living room sometime this week or weekend and after that we’ll finally get some curtains up in there. We might also repaint the trim in our bedroom. Now that it’s all done, Leah doesn’t really like the color. Thankfully it’s easy to repaint that. We also picked out a color for the baby’s room, though we’ve got awhile before that needs to be done.

Speaking of the baby, Leah is doing well. Her morning sickness seems to be completely gone now. Below is a 24-week belly picture, and this Friday we have our monthly ultrasound to check the baby’s development. Because she’s on blood thinners, she’ll need to go for these ultrasounds every month, to make sure the baby’s growing properly. It will be fun for us to get to see how our little one is doing, and hopefully we can get a 4D picture of his/her face this time. The baby’s pretty active, kicking and moving around a lot. Leah had to start doing daily kick counts today (tracking how long it takes the baby to kick 10 times), and in today’s session it took under 3 minutes.

Our fifth wedding anniversary was last Friday. We went out to dinner and had some super yummy Gopher’s cake for dessert. Then we came home and Leah fell asleep on the couch by 9:30. A very romantic evening. :)

Greg’s been out exploring our yard and has found a patch of asparagus growing out in our field. He steamed and ate it and said it was good, though Leah wouldn’t try any. She said it was because she wasn’t 100% sure that it was actually asparagus and not some poisonous plant that just looked like asparagus, but really she just doesn’t like it. Hopefully the baby is not as picky of an eater as she is.

Let’s see, what else have we been up to? We went down to Leah’s parents’ house for Memorial Day for Dayna’s high school graduation. So hard to believe she’s already old enough for that! When Greg first met her, she was only 7. But besides that there hasn’t been too much happening other than house-related stuff. Greg has been working on getting the pictures of the new place formatted and we should have them on here soon, especially now that we have our Internet back!
