18 week pics

29 Apr

I realized that we forgot to go back and add in my earlier pictures, but oh, well. Here are a couple from last night:

Yes, I cropped out my head, I had this super weird smile. Plus, Greg took the pic with me all off-center, so it looked weird anyway. I need to work on my posture, hey? Look how slouchy I am.

This next one is mostly for me. Sorry for my bright green undies flashing out there, but I wanted to document my Lovenox bruises (from the blood thinners I have to inject myself with every day). That massive one on my left side is actually starting to fade a bit, you should’ve seen it last week!

My morning sickness was awful through the first trimester and I’m still having some, which is annoying. Here I am a month and a half into the second trimester and still getting sick when I brush my teeth. What the heck?

As of my appointment last week, I’ve gained 7.5 pounds. I did lose a bit early on from the morning sickness, but I’m definitely on to the gaining part now. I’m pretty much hungry all the time and Greg so far hasn’t catered to my cravings at all. Here’s part of an email I sent him yesterday from work:

Things I want to eat right now:

  1. A honey glazed donut
  2. A blueberry pie (room temperature)
  3. A hot fudge sundae from DQ
  4. Nachos
Things I am able to eat right now:

  1. Expired animal crackers
  2. Expired goldfish crackers
  3. A granola bar that got mushed in the bottom of my tote bag a couple of months ago

Did I get any of those things I wanted? No. I ate the smooshed granola bar. Then when I got home from work I ate half a jar of queso dip and chips. :)

Next week we’ll have some cool ultrasound pics! I can’t wait.

Baby + new house = are we crazy?

27 Apr

As you saw in the last posting, we’re expecting a little one towards the end of September. To add to the craziness, we’re also in the process of buying our first home. It’s located about 7 miles south of where we currently live in south Marquette. It will be extremely nice to finally have a place to call our own. We will be closing on the house next Thursday. Its been a balancing act with the stress between the housing stuff and the baby. But we’re excited about it, too. This past weekend we picked up some paint chips to get ideas for painting. We’ll be posting pictures once we settle in.

Leah has been doing well with the second trimester of her pregnancy and the baby has been pretty active. Last week we started feeling the kicks from the outside which is really exciting. We have our big ultrasound on Tuesday next week, which we’re looking forward to. We’ve decided not to find out whether we’re having a boy or a girl, but we’ll see if we’re able to stay strong when we’re actually there.

As for the weather, it has been pretty unpredictable. About a week ago, we had a snow storm that dumped about 5 inches at our house while other areas received almost 30 inches! Greg refused to snowblow so the driveway was pretty messy for a couple of days. Then by last Friday it reached almost 80° and now we’re only left with a snow pile in the neighboring parking lot. Over the weekend, it rained and the temperature was back down in to the 40s.

Last night we spotted this deer in our backyard. When Leah saw it, she was pretty much speechless and just pointed. It took almost 4 years for us to see a deer in our yard. We’ve seen tracks during the winter but never the actual deer. Below are a couple pics.

Baby on board

14 Apr

To start, we’re going to break our silence and announce that we are expecting a baby at the end of September! We’re extremely excited and everything seems to be going well. Leah is 4 months along and starting to show signs of a bump. To help comfort our anxiety, we bought a doppler to listen to the baby’s heartbeat. It’s pretty cool to hear his/her heartbeat in the 140 bpm range. Leah also has started to feel some movement and yesterday the baby gave a good kick at the doppler to make it move in her hand. We’ll keep you updated and thanks to everyone for their prayers.

Leah had weekly ultrasounds from 6 to 13 weeks so we could make sure that everything was going well.  Here’s an image from the 11 week ultrasound.  It was from an abdominal scan, so it isn’t very detailed.  (Unfortunately the printer was broken at our 13-week appointment so we didn’t get a picture then.)  If you’re having a hard time seeing the baby, it’s on its side.  You can see the arms and the top part of the torso.  We go back in a few weeks for the 20-week ultrasound, so we should have much better pics from that appointment.

Our baby at 11w2d

This is probably boring to everyone but us, but we thought we’d add it anyway. We’re able to connect our Doppler to the computer and record the baby’s heartbeat, so of course that’s what we did right away. Here’s the baby’s heartbeat from April 1.

On Friday, Greg had the day off and went fishing with Ken to catch steelhead. He was sworn to secrecy about the places they visited and they both managed to catch a fish. Then on Saturday, we headed down to Nahma to celebrate Easter. When we arrived, Lily and Chloe were there to visit. They are both growing really fast and were excited to hear Leah is pregnant. Then on Sunday was the big Easter dinner with some of Leah’s family. It was nice to see everyone.

For the most part, it looks like spring is finally on it’s way in. The big April snowstorm still hasn’t come but there’s still time. Most of the snow in our yard is gone except a few patches in the background. We saw our first rabbit last week in the backyard and yesterday Leah saw the first chipmunk of the year.

MORE PHOTOS TO COME!
