Merry Christmas

22 Dec

Although a few days early, we want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! We will be heading down to Leah’s parents’ house on Christmas Eve and we probably won’t have any time to post before then. It will be nice over the next few weeks to only work a couple days and then relax. (We wish our work days were like that all the time.) Not a whole lot has been happening lately around here besides cold weather and lots of snow. We’ve received over 50 inches of snow this season and we’re on track for some big snowfall numbers by April. We currently have around 18 inches on the ground (according to Greg’s measurements).

This past weekend we pretty much finished our Christmas shopping and it feels nice to be done. On Sunday afternoon we headed out for our first ice fishing of the season. This is the earliest we’ve ever gone and the ice was plenty safe at 10″. We didn’t have any luck catching fish but Leah had one bite and we marked a few on the fish finder. Hopefully the next time will be more productive.

We hope everyone has a relaxing and safe Christmas!

Thanksgiving

4 Dec

Since we rotate between our families for the holidays, this year we headed to Greg’s parents’ house (Woodland, Mich.) for the turkey feast. We decided to leave after work on Tuesday night so we could start the vacation early and avoid most of the holiday traffic. The weather was pretty good on the way down with the only snow being in the Grayling area. On Wednesday we slept in and relaxed for most of the day. We did go into Lake Odessa to visit Greg’s dad at work and saw their new pet rabbit, Lucky. (He was rescued from people who put him outside when their house went into foreclosure.)

Thanksgiving day was a full house with all of Greg’s family there plus his grandma. We had a good turkey dinner, watched the Lions lose badly and introduced everyone to Guitar Hero. Friday was another relaxing day and we went to a Mexican restaurant that night. On Saturday we headed to Chris and Theresa’s new house which was really nice. We spent the night and went for a drink with Greg’s brothers in the Gaslight Village near East Grand Rapids. It’s a pretty cool neighborhood. The next morning we awoke to a snowstorm hitting the area. The roads back to Woodland were slick and only a few of us went to the bowling alley for our annual bowling tournament, which Greg’s dad won, as usual. The snow continued to fall on Monday and it made for a long trip from south of Grayling back to Marquette. It seems like vacations always go by way too fast! View pictures from our trip.

As for the weather around here, we’ve gotten a lot of snow since we returned. It looks and feels like January rather than early December. The temperature outside is currently 10° and dropping (“ugh” says Leah) but we’ll be ice fishing soon!
