I can’t believe the Fourth of July has already come and gone. It makes me sad because I know that the rest of the summer will go by just as quickly. I was just saying a few weeks ago how we didn’t have much going on this summer and now we’ve got every weekend booked.
Oh, well. I enjoy it.
The Fourth was so much fun. We headed down to Nahma on Thursday night, and got there just before Justin. He and Greg managed to wait probably an hour before they got out the bottle rocket launcher. Probably a new record for them.
On Friday the weather was beautiful. We hauled the ladderball, horseshoes and water volleyball games down to the beach and enjoyed the weather. I bought this water volleyball set from Big Lots but it was too wavy, so we tried to anchor it down but the rocks we used weren’t heavy enough so we gave up and hauled it back to shore. I’m filling up milk jugs with pebbles so we can try that this weekend and see if they hold it down. Wow. That is probably way more detail about the water volleyball than anyone wanted to know. Oh, well.
Friday night was the annual fireworks show. It was a bit windy down on the beach, but I think everyone had a good time. Scratch that. I know some people had a really good time because Justin and Randy both didn’t come up from the beach until about 4:00 in the morning. Greg said the birds were chirping when he heard them come in. Crazy.
So then on Saturday I think some of the people who might have celebrated a bit too heartily were feeling pretty tired. We went to the couple’s golf scramble for Annie and Luke who are getting married August 9 (the same day as my class reunion, so we won’t be going). It was a lot of fun. Each hole had a cute theme. On one of them, you had a shot of Sex on the Beach and “leid” each other. That night’s bonfire was a bit more subdued.
Sunday was Dayna’s birthday. Before we could get to the celebrating for her, we heard sirens. We all ran outside and saw fire trucks driving by, so naturally we followed them down to the cabins to find out what was going on. Thankfully, it was just the storage building for the cabins that had caught fire and not one of the cabins. They had a boat and some four-wheelers or something in there. I’m calling it The Great Nahma Fire of 2008.
Greg turned 29 yesterday! We went out for dinner and stuffed ourselves. But this is the last birthday for us for awhile. We just have so many of them in such a short time.
The baby birds in the nest on our porch hatched last weekend and they’re really big now. As I write this I feel really itchy. Last year’s birds had bird mites which got on me from being near the nest and from having the living room window near the nest open. They’re really, really, really tiny little black specks that you can barely see, so I just feel all creepy crawly, even though I didn’t see any when I was out there tonight taking pictures of them.
The weekend after next is my company’s summer picnic, and then the weekend after we head downstate to visit Greg’s family. That will bring us to August. Yikes. I wonder if I had an event-free summer if it would feel like it lasts longer. I doubt it. Summer always feels too short.
We’ll hopefully get pictures up on our site soon, but for now you can check out my photoblog.
Our video page contains a short clip of this year’s fireworks.
