Fun Finds Friday

25 Apr

  1. Ha! This list of 8 Fictional Cities You Wouldn’t Want to Live in cracked me right up.
  2. This list is pretty good, too. It’s 8 Pointless Laws All Comic Book Movies Follow.
  3. This seems to be the day for lists! Here are 5 Mysteries Surrounding the Cosby Show.
  4. This one is just weird. India’s tallest woman (7ft 2in) has a 10-month-old baby who is 3ft 2in. She says he wears clothes for a 5-year-old. And he was 26″ at birth. Yikes.
  5. Check out The Candy Wrapper Museum. Some of these are so funny, especially these aerobics-related candy cigarettes, and Mr. T’s Gold Chain bubblegum. I pity the fool who doesn’t click on that link!

Spring has sprung

24 Apr

Over the last week, the weather has shifted magically, from the dead of winter to green grass and spring flowers popping up. Last week the temperature rose into the 60s and with gusty winds all of our snow melted. The downside is that we now have a wet basement. It doesn’t seem to be as bad as it was a couple years ago, though. Yesterday it was in the 70s for the first time this year (yay!) and it was nice to not have the furnace running. According to the forecast, it’s supposed to take a turn for the worse on Sunday and Monday, with snow showers predicted (what?!). We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

In other news, we headed down to Leah’s parents’ house last weekend so Leah could help with her sister’s junior prom. Leah was busy making jewelry and helping her with make-up and getting her laced into her dress. We all trooped out to Fumee Falls to take some pictures of the prom crew. Dayna and Robbie looked great! We also got to see Lily and our goddaugter Chloe as they happened to be in the area. They are both really growing up and full of energy. We brought our new/used Nintendo Wii with us so that kept everyone entertained as well.

We’ll post some pictures on here soon, but you can see some of them on Leah’s photoblog for now.

Fun Finds Friday

  1. This is a neat site. Using your spacebar, you tap the rhythm of a song and it will try to find what song it is. I tried it about 5 times, and it didn’t find my song once, but maybe it will work better for someone else.
  2. I got 80% on this Saved by the Bell quiz. No surprise there, I guess. Isn’t it amazing that this show is still on in syndication and they haven’t mentioned a new series about it yet? They’re supposedly making a new 90210 spin-off. Seems like a SBTB one wouldn’t be far behind.
  3. Check out these caves, which have been converted into a temple, a hotel and even a school.
  4. Young Me – Now Me is pretty cool. You find a picture of you when you were little and recreate it now. The Magic House one is pretty funny, and so is the Superman shirt one on page 3. I might have to try this myself. I’m going down to my parents’ house this weekend, so I’ll have to look through the old pictures to find a good one to recreate.
  5. Why doesn’t my office look like these? I’m so jealous.
  6. I would’ve loved having one of these when I was little. Matter of fact, I still think it would be fun, especially sleeping in it at night unanchored. You would feel rocked to sleep. The only thing is that it’s around $600 US.

April snow showers

13 Apr

I would have never thought this late into April I would be snowblowing the driveway. Well, yesterday I was so fortunate to experience that task. It snowed Friday and Saturday and it would have been impossible to get out with the 8-10″ of snow we received. Looking at the forecast for the week, I’m guessing this is the last storm for the year. Who knows, though, there could be another down the road. This week the temperature is supposed to get up into the 60s, so much of it will probably melt.

If you look over to the right, in the snowfall report, you’ll notice that we broke last year’s snow total record.

Here are some pictures of the latest blast.

Fun Finds Friday

11 Apr

Yay, it’s Friday again! I’m so glad. We don’t have a whole lot planned for this weekend, which is nice. We’re supposed to get a ton of snow (again. I know. It’s awful) so we’ll probably be staying in for much of it. We’re also dog-sitting Mollie (aka Greg’s shadow) again this weekend.

Oh! Also! One of my photoblog friends contacted me after seeing my Wii post from last Friday where I mentioned how much I want one. Her brother is selling his, so I’m buying it! She’s mailing it out today, and I’m so excited to get it and play.

Well, without further ado, on to the Fun Finds Friday list!

  1. Some hilarious t-shirts.
  2. How aware are you? Take the awareness test.
  3. Take the Hair Band Quiz and see if you can match the band with the cover song. It’s kind of tricky because they’re all covers, and I only got 60%.
  4. Check out these five incredible buildings made of ice. I’m really surprised there’s not more of an effort to make buildings of snow and ice here and in Houghton (other than Winter Carnival, of course).
  5. Just to make you feel stupid (or maybe that’s just me), try the Geography Challenge. In 10 questions, I only found 2 countries. Makes you happy you’re not in school anymore. Or makes you realize just how much you’ve forgotten since getting out of school.
  6. Here are photos of some unusual animal friendships. So cute.
  7. In honor of its return, take The Office quiz. I got 67%.
  8. This just cracks me up. I’m sure you’ve all seen it by now, but I can’t help it. I laugh every time.

  9. This is neat. Learn to write your name in elvish.
  10. Check out this list of unusual deaths. Can you imagine dying by having an eagle drop a tortoise on your head (Aeschylus)? Very weird.
