We said goodbye

3 Dec

Yesterday ended another pet era in our lives. I had put some flyers up, in Munising, that mentioned that we needed to get rid of Buns. Needless to say, we had a taker last week and we made the delivery on Sunday. She’s going to see how it goes for the week but we think he’ll do okay. The new owner does have a 9-year-old Beagle but the dog is very mellow and they seemed to enjoy each other’s company while we were there.

This winter seems to be off to a “normal” start this year. The last few years have been pretty wimpy and this year it should be a white Christmas. We received about 8″ on Saturday night and another 3″ today. While I was out snowblowing tonight I think it snowed a 1/2″ or so in the half-hour I was out there. I’m really looking forward to the lakes freezing and doing some fishing.

Sorry to hear that you had to give up Buns, but I guess it is probably for the best. Everything is good here. We finally put the plow on the 4 wheeler Sunday morning after church. Dad thinks it blew the transmission plowing, though, because the snow was so heavy. Then this morning the workroom in the basement was full of water. Somehow the hose came unconnected from the water softener. It must have regenerated yesterday and filled the workroom with water! I was up at 5:00 a.m. this morning vacuuming up water instead of exercising! Dayna thinks her tires are bald as she is sliding all over the road. So we are going to the tire store after school today and probably putting new tires on the Purple Hornet. I think we would have probably been smart to just buy her a newer car. Oh, well. Casey is doing fine. The ulcer on his lip finally healed. My Christmas party is this Friday, so I am looking forward to some festive time with my girls!!!

You can check the tire wear by using a penny. Here’s what I found online… “place a US penny into a groove between treads, with Lincoln’s head down. If the tread is at or beyond the top of Lincoln’s head you have at at least 3/32-inch of tread left, a satisfactory level”

We bought those tires that are on there brand new 4 years ago. Plus you figure it wasn’t driven for nearly a year. I would think they should still be good. Maybe let her know that it doesn’t have 4-wheel drive. =)

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Plus the car weighs as much as a can of soup.

I would say that the Purple Hornet is pretty comparable to my car in weight, and I slide all over the road too. You just have to drive carefully. It is her first winter. It takes a while to get used to it. Fear should be slowing her down.

Too late!! We have an appointment tomorrow to get four brand new snow tires. The guy at Mr Tire said the back tires are okay, but the front ones should be replaced. Also, the check engine light is on again. We have an appointment Friday morning at Mike’s to have him check it out. Hopefully, it is nothing major.
