Turkey Time

20 Nov

It’s hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is already here! Because of our holiday rotation, this year we’ll be heading to Nahma for the chow down. We’re expecting a lot of people for dinner and it should be exceptionally fun with the Packers vs. Lions game.

Not too much happening lately. We’ve spent the last couple weekends at home, which is nice. Last Friday night we went to the Marquette Rangers hockey game. Leah got some free tickets from work and so we decided to go. The Rangers are a junior team which means they’re between high school and college. The league is a lot rougher and they allowing fighting, which Leah doesn’t find entertaining. On Saturday we went to the state semi-final game for high school football. We watched Menominee play against Grand Rapids West Catholic. Walking out on to the field, the GR team looked like some pro players with their fancy uniforms and huge players. Menominee, on the other hand, looked like the Bad News Bears with their plain, 1980s uniforms. It’s funny how that part of the game doesn’t really tell the whole story. From the very beginning, Menominee pretty much stuck it to them. Most of their players were undersized but they managed to intercept one of GR’s best quarterbacks four times. It was quite a game and Menominee won 41-20. They now play in the state finals against Jackson Lumen Christi, who was in our conference when I was in high school, and another private school. It should be fun to watch them on TV this Saturday.

Anyways, have a good holiday and I’m sure we’ll have some pictures to post.

The return of winter

6 Nov

You may have noticed on our homepage my snowfall stats table has reappeared which means we’ve finally received some snow! Since our house is only a couple miles from Lake Superior we received only an inch or so. Further away from the lake there was about 6-12″ of heavy, wet snow! My drive this morning was pretty good because a couple miles east of Marquette there was absolutely nothing. The wind has been howling and the waves were the biggest I’ve ever seen them. They were at least 8-10′ breaking on shore and quite the sight. I wish I had a camera on the drive to work this morning.

I’m still feeling the effects of the lovely cold that Leah passed on to me. It’s been about a week now. Over the weekend we just sat on the couch. My voice has started to come back and I think I’ll start weaning myself from all the over-the-counter drugs we’ve purchased.

Leah’s co-worker took this picture on the way to work this morning.
