A ghoulish weekend

29 Oct

Another Halloween party has come and gone for us. This year we headed down to Nahma for a party at Mac’s Bar. We’ve been extremely busy lately so we were scrambling at the last minute with costumes. We ended up dressing up as an old couple and named ourselves Hazel and Marvin. It was sort of a look into the future. Leah’s grandma dressed up as the Grim Reaper and her parents were Peg and Al Bundy from Married with Children. We did take a few pictures from the evening and posted them in the photo gallery section.

In other news, Leah has been suffering from a cold for almost a week. She finally went to the doctor today but her “cute Polish doc” said it was just a nasty cold. We’ve still got Mr. Buns and really need to start looking for a home for him. If anyone would like a funny, friendly rabbit let us know!

The week of the rabbit

26 Oct

Well, it’s Friday after 5:00 pm and the web poll for choosing the rabbit’s name has ended. In the end… it was tie! After 1,399 votes, Gobo and Mr. Bun are even. We weren’t expecting that many votes so we’re not sure if someone screwed with our poll or the web poll was posted somewhere. So after much discussion we’ve decided to name him “Buns.” This whole week we’ve gotten used to calling him that name. He’s been fun this past week besides the chewing of one of our speaker wires. Leah bought some protective sleeving but not all of it was protected.

On Tuesday, though, we received a surprising letter from our landlord. After talking to his controlling wife they decided that we can’t have a rabbit. What a joke! His reasoning… they can do damage and can cause allergy problems for the next tenants! I didn’t realize a rabbit in a cage for 23.5 hrs. a day can do a lot of damage! I think his own kids will do more damage. And I also think our old, forced air furnace collects more dust and allergens than the Bun will ever create. So, anyways, we’re pretty ticked about the situation and we’re thinking Leah’s co-worker can board the rabbit for us until we move into our own home. We’re hoping for that in the spring.

This weekend we’re headed to a Halloween party. It should be fun and we should have pictures posted soon after.

It’s your choice

18 Oct

We’ve been struggling to name the new rabbit and so we’ve decided to do something fun. We’re going to let the Internet public decide his name. On the homepage you’ll find a webpoll with 5 choices of names. The polling will end next Friday, Oct. 26th at 5:00pm EST. Thanks for voting!

Note from Leah: We were able to verify that the bunny is indeed a boy.

Leah to the rescue

16 Oct

Leah has a reputation of taking in animals that are about to be kicked to the curb. Since I’ve been with her its only been Miss Mouse but I hear stories, from others, that it was a frequent act when she was younger.

Yet again, she “rescues” another animal…

Meet our new rabbit: Anthony… Tucker… we’re not really sure yet. We’re also unsure of the gender because it (the rabbit) doesn’t like being picked up too much. The rabbit is pretty friendly, though, and likes to be pet on the head.

You may be wondering how this one was rescued. To make a long story short, Leah’s co-worker lives with a bunch of really dumb college kids who received a bunny as a gift, complete with a cage. They had it for a month but lost interest. Being as dumb as they are, they were planning to just kick it outside instead of taking to the animal shelter. Now this is where Leah comes to the rescue and you meet the newest member to the family… a bunny.

What will be rescued next… I don’t know. But I do know she has a big heart and I can appreciate that! :)

Annual 4-wheeling trip

7 Oct

This weekend was the annual 4-wheeling trip that the men take in the fall. Strong thunderstorms and showers moved in on Saturday morning followed by extremely warm weather in the mid-70s. The warm weather also brought out the bugs which is highly unusual for the month of October. Their trip this year took them north of Iron Mountain where they found a lot of good trail riding. We’ve uploaded some pictures that Greg took throughout the weekend.

The women, on the other hand, stayed in Iron Mountain where Leah’s grandma came for the weekend. They went to the Iron Mountain-Kingsford football game on Saturday and watched Kingsford pummel Iron Mountain, 47-0 (go Flivvers!).

Sunday, with temperatures in the 80s (89° at one point), it felt more like summer than fall. Monday is supposed to be nice, but then cool off and be more fall-like the rest of the week.
