Hello, Summer? Could you come back now?

20 Aug

It has been chilly here lately and I don’t like it at all. It’s August! It’s supposed to still be summer! September had better be really warm to make up for this. Greg and I had talked about going up to Copper Harbor and camping this past weekend, but we decided not to because of the cold. When I turned on the Weather Channel Saturday morning, it said how Marquette had set a new record low of 36°. 36°?! That’s practically winter!

Instead of going to Copper Harbor, we decided to go to the U.P. State Fair, which means I got to have an elephant ear. Then on Sunday we broke out the hammock and were napping in the yard (although I did have to go inside and get a pillow and blanket, because the breeze was chilly. Our neighbors probably think we’re crazy, but that’s ok).

In other news, it’s two more weeks until Labor Day! Hard to believe it’s that time already. We need to get working on our float!

Chloe’s big one!

This past weekend was our goddaughter’s first birthday. We had a big cookout and some tasty cake on Saturday afternoon. We took a few pictures of her eating her own little cake and some other ones throughout the day. She’s such a cutie!

The weekend itself was pretty relaxing. The weather and water were so warm that Leah actually went swimming 5 times from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. We saw quite a few meteors from the Perseid shower on Friday and Saturday night.

In other news, we need some R-A-I-N. It is so dry here in Marquette and all over the Upper Peninsula. The big wildfire to the east is 50% contained after more than a week of burning and it has consumed over 18,000 acres. Luckily there’s been only one unused cabin that has burned.

Have a good week!

Canoeing on the bay

5 Aug

This past weekend we traveled to Nahma for some relaxing on the beach. The weather was beautiful and the water was warm. On Friday night we borrowed Vicki and John’s canoe and went fishing in the bay. Greg caught five fish, smallmouth and rock bass. Leah assisted in the paddling and read her book at other times (no license). Saturday was pretty much a beach day with warm weather and water. That night we went fishing again but the results were only a couple of fish (including one so tiny it was really only like half of a fish). On Sunday the weather was cloudy so we went for a walk with Casey.

Well, I guess it’s back to work tomorrow. :(
