Wyoming pictures!

27 Jun

We’ve finally starting getting pictures organized (700 is a lot to go through). Instead of loading each one individually as before, we’re using shutterfly.com to showcase them. Just click this link to view the collection: http://wyoming07.shutterfly.com. On that webpage you’ll see different albums for each day, with the first day being at the bottom. So far we have through day 3 uploaded and we’ll continue adding new ones. Just click each album and it easiest to view them as slideshows, and there is a link to do that. Under each photo you’ll also see a short description. We’re also planning to add a Wyoming page so we can display some of the stats from our trip, gas costs, etc. Enjoy!

Vacation over :(

24 Jun

Our vacation ended when we pulled into the driveway last night about 8:30pm. The night before last we stayed in Detroit Lakes, Minn. and stopped yesterday in Duluth to visit with a friend. We also drove to the place we used to live and the landlord finally sided the place. It looks nice. Today is back to reality with laundry and grocery shopping. Later tonight we’ll probably start going through the pictures and getting them online.

On the road again.

Today we sadly left Wyoming. We had an awesome experience thanks to Kami and Ryan! We took so many pictures that it will take a while to get them on here. Our camping in the mountains was alot of fun and I fished the most beautiful stream yesterday with snowcapped mountains in the distance! It was like what you see in the movies!

Before heading into the mountains, today, we stopped at a site that has dinosaur footprints in the rock. Pretty neat to see. We then had another cool drive through the mountains heading east. We took a different route than we came and saw 3 moose, 2 of them were pretty close to the road. From there we headed into Montana and to “Custer’s Last Stand” battlefield. This is where General Custer lead his army to defeat the Indians but pretty much got obliterated. Besides the monument where Custer died, there are rolling hills containing tombstones where soldiers and natives where killed. Upon leaving the national monument I noticed our back tire was low on air. We took the car to a gas station and filled the tire but we could hear air leaking. We eventually found a tire place that was open at 6pm and they fixed it for us. After that fiasco we continued on east until we found a hotel at 10:30pm in Glendive, Montana. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Sad note to pass on… our pet gerbil “Gilbert” aka Gilllll-beeeee died in a tragic accident yesterday. He will be missed. R.I.P. little man. :(

Yellowstone and cowboys

19 Jun

Hello from Wyoming! Here are some pictures from our day yesterday. We went into the town of Cody, home of Buffalo Bill, and visited the shops. We then drove west towards Yellowstone Park and took our pictures at the sign. The drive was really cool with amazing terrain and beautiful rivers. We finished up the night with a rodeo complete with bronco riding, bull riding, steer wrestling and barrel racing. Pretty cool.

Today we’re headed into the mountains again for camping and fishing.

Wyoming, we have arrived

18 Jun

We’ve made it to Wyoming! Saturday and Sunday were crazy days, with so much activity packed into them. Saturday we toured the Badlands. It was so weird looking, almost like what you picture Mars or the moon looking like. We then headed towards Rapid City to spend the night. The whole area was under a tornado watch, and it was spooky driving along the empty highway at night seeing the lightning for miles and miles.

Sunday we headed to Mount Rushmore, which seems so much smaller then you imagine it to be, but was still really neat. Then we toured the most winding road ever on our way to Custer State Park. Next we headed up to Devils Tower where we saw a bunch of cute prairie dogs. Then we headed for Basin, where Kami and Ryan live. We drove over some high mountain peaks and winding roads which put our brakes to the test. The highest elevation in the moutains was 9666 ft. When you consider that Lake Superior is only 600 ft., that’s quite a difference. There was still snow in the mountains, so Greg had to get out and explore it.

We finally arrived in Basin and today we’re going into Cody and then to see a rodeo tonight. We’re having so much fun!
