Vote for the dancing mom!

25 Apr

My roommate my freshman year at Northern is a finalist in Good Morning America’s “Dancing with the Moms” contest! She now lives up in Alaska with her four kids and her husband, who’s in the Air Force. Make sure you vote for her! She is the last one on here, where you can read her letter and see her and her daughter dancing. Then make sure you vote for Heather Kangas!!

Feelin’ hot, hot, hot!

23 Apr

This past weekend Leah and I went down to Nahma and enjoyed the spring-like weather with her mom. I did some fishing on Saturday, but no luck. I did take some photos Friday evening of the Nahma Burner and they can be seen here. The highlight was the drive home yesterday afternoon and watching the thermometer rise as we got away from the lake. When we left Nahma it was in the 50s and at our house it was 85 degrees! It was weird pulling out the shorts and sandals when just two weeks ago I was snowblowing. We both enjoyed the weather with Leah reading in her hammock while I vacuumed and washed her car (I did it voluntarily). The rest of the week is supposed to be typical spring weather in the 50-60 degree range.

Good-bye, Miss Mouse

20 Apr

Miss Mouse died last night. We discovered a tumor the beginning of April, and she went downhill quickly. I was beginning to make arrangements for her to be put to sleep so she wouldn’t have to suffer when she stopped moving last night. I took her out and held her for awhile, and pet her until she’d passed.

A guy I work with bought her last August to feed to his pet snake, but a co-worker rescued her and I ended up taking her home because I already had a cage to put her in. She loved to run in her wheel, and we first realized she was sick when she wasn’t running as much. I like to think she had a good life with us. At least she lived 8 months longer than she would have and had daily treats.

This is the second pet of ours to die in the last two months. Gilbert is still looking healthy and happy, so hopefully this will be the last death for quite awhile.

Rescue me

16 Apr

Remember how I said that I was “rescued” from a grain bin when I went to GEAPS in February? Well, the magazine article featuring the rescue operation has come out. You can see it here. That’s me being rescued in the bottom three pictures. Hard to tell, I know.

The return of spring, part deux

16 Apr

According to the weatherman, it looks as though spring is on the way back this week. We received around 6″ of snow this past week, so there’s more than a foot on the ground at our house. I don’t think it’s going to be as warm as it was two weeks ago so I would guess there will be snow banks visible in May! I’m hoping to hit the streams this week and see if the steelhead are biting again. I’ll keep you posted.
