Snowblowers Suck
6 Dec
Ok, so I decided to snowblow the driveway. We’ve got quite a bit of snow, and we’re supposed to get 6″ tonight. So I figured that I might as well snowblow tonight so that I don’t get stuck in the driveway tomorrow morning. So here’s the story. I get all dressed and go out to the garage, open the door (which is a bitch, let me tell you), and start the machine. It fires up on the first try. So I’m feeling all proud of myself, when suddenly, it shuts off. I try again, but it won’t start. After like the third try, I plug in the electric start, and it still won’t start. I try the electric start again, and it makes a horrible noise. So I unplug it and grab the cord to try to pull-start it again. Only now the cord won’t pull at all. So I swore a bit and gave up.
Once I got back inside, I looked it up online, and it turns out you have to remove belts and stuff to fix it. Great. I know I said I didn’t want to snowblow, but I didn’t think I’d actually break the snowblower. Maybe I really will get stuck in the driveway in the morning and then I can have a snow day. That’s not a bad idea.

That doesn’t sound good. Did you remember to turn the gas line to on?
Um… oops, I think. That means it’s very bad, hey? I don’t remember turning that on. That’s just great.
Maybe you should get yourself a yooper scooper for backup.
Maybe we should get a 4-wheeler with a plow. That would be a heck of a lot easier than snowblowing. I’m all for that, except for the cost. That’s kind of a lot to pay just to clear your driveway.
I talked to a guy at work, and he said that me forgetting to turn the gas on wouldn’t make it seize up like it did, so it’s not my fault that this happened. Good. Except it might not have happened in the first place, because it started right up the first time, and if the gas had been on, I wouldn’t have had to try starting it again. *Sigh.*
You guys are hilarious! I can just see you out there, Leah, with that big ol’ snowblower yelling profanities! When will Greg be home?
I don’t think it’s a major problem with the snowblower. I’m waiting in the hotel for the car to warm up. The temp outside is -7 right now! I could feel the moisture sucked from my hands when we first got out here. Talk to you later!
Thankfully, Greg should be home tomorrow night, and it’s not supposed to snow a whole lot more between now and then. So that’s Greg’s weekend project, fixing the snowblower. I called our landlord last night, so he came over this morning and plowed me out. Otherwise, there was no way I was going to be able to get out. So no snow day for me.
We don’t have any snow here at all yet. It’s been plenty cold lately though.
That sucks about the snowblower. We don’t even have the plow on our 4 wheeler yet. We only have about 2″ of snow. It’s supposed to be 40 today and tomorrow, so it will probably all melt. I’m looking forward to Christmas at our house this year. No getting up at the crack of dawn to run to Grandma’s!! I told everyone that if they want to see her, they have to come to our house. I did bring the poker stuff home so we can have a game or two.
Update on the snowblower: I ended up calling the place where we bought it and they think that some of the sprockets from the electric start busted off and are stuck between the gears. They’re picking it up on Thursday.
